One Day: Midwife Math

4 hours of clinic
2 precipitous births
2 counties
2 sets of spontaneously ruptured membranes with thick particulate meconium
2 calls to 911/EMS to have them stand by
1 lovely paramedic
1 not-so-lovely paramedic
2 normal spontaneous vaginal deliveries of
2 vigorous baby boys
1 waterbirth
1 nuchal cord (baby #1)
2 nuchal hands (baby #2)
2 sets of 8&9 APGARS
8lbs and 7lbs 10 oz
1 hour long placenta delay before
1 manual removal of
1 incredibly scary looking placenta (bilobed, mishapen, huge infarcts, terrifying velamentous insertion of cord - vessels coursing through membranes all over the place...)
1 lucky baby
1 fat, luscious juicy placenta birthed almost bloodlessly on a bathroom floor. Ahhhh.

2 (only slightly) delirious telephone calls to classmates on the way home.

What are the odds!?

Oh yeah, and1 happy student midwife. :)

56 babies down...

Over an intact perineum though ;)
Kid came out looking like a prize fighter, fists up. Silly kid.

Your math is amazing!
I had a one nuchal hand and the dents where the other one was on the cheek.
Sadly the perineum was NOT intact.
urg.
Glad this didn't happen while husband was away!
